Abstraksi | : | Abstract Degree of activity relates to an individual's pattern of initiative and engagement in the experiences and tasks of life. As a conceptualization of Alfred Adler, degree of activity has significant implications for mental health and therapeutic treatment. Exploring the literature of the activity-passivity continuum contributes to a clarification of Adier's concept of degree of activity in the context of client functioning. From an assessment perspective, the relative level of activity is detectable in the sphere of a person's early recollections and utilization of safeguarding tendencies. Early childhood memories provide an understanding of a client's outlook on life, including degree of activity as a personality variable. Safeguarding tendencies involve a process in which a client resists functioning in endeavors that threaten one's selfesteem. Assuming a passive or evasive approach to challenging experiences enables an individual to avoid or minimize anticipated failure through a psychological protective device. |
