Abstraksi | : | This case study reviews the therapeutic use of three female relationship surrogates to assist a 29 year old male virgin whose goal was to feel comfortable talking with, touching, and kissing a female partner. The recruitment, socialization, and assignments of these surrogates by the therapist, as well as the management of the sessions and outcome of therapy are discussed. Surrogates were recruited to assist in helping the client to learn how to talk with and to touch a woman without feeling anxious. The therapist paid the surrogates after meeting with the client and surrogate for feedback on completed assignments. Over a period of five months the client was able to talk, touch, and kiss a female and these behaviors generalized to the real world whereby he was able to engage in these same behaviors with women in his social network. The treatment of dating anxiety via relationship surrogates has not been addressed in the literature. Criminal background checks were not conducted on surrogates. Sexual transmitted infection and HIV screening tests were not conducted on the client and surrogates. The paper concludes that relationship surrogates are a useful addition to the therapeutic team for assisting clients who have the goal of talking, touching, and kissing a partner. |
