| Abstraksi | : | Semarang Groundwater Basin covers an area of 12.039 km2 located in the district of Semarang, Ungaran, Demak, Kendal, and Grobogan-Purwodadi. Geograpically, it is located at 109°44'20" – 110°23'02" W and 6°22'14" – 7°19'36" S. The area is inhabited by 5.295.106 people for the year 2002. Annual water supply demand is 154.616.920 m3/tyear. Most of the water demand is abstracted from geroundwater (76%) either by private wells or PDAM, and only 24% originated from surface water. Number of deepwells and the pumped water increased markedly, particularly during the last decade, from 16 wells and pumped 427.050 m3 in 1900 to 1194 wells and pumped 45.032.906 m3 in 2002. This over pumped has disturbed the equilibrium of hydrogeological condition. The groundwater level is lowered and formed depression cone centered on the some industrial estates. Groundwater level at Semarang has lowered 0, 32 m to 17,5 m, and followed by land subsidence. The groundwater quality has also decreased, as shown by the increasing of electric conductivity (EC) value and Cl content. To minimize further groundwater degradation, monitoring program has to be implemented. |
