| Abstraksi | : | This study attempts to reveal the ideology hidden in folk tales entitled Putri Purbasari dan Lutungkasarung and Tragedi Putri Roro Jonggrang widely shared among Indonesian child readers. This study employed what so called symptomatic reading to reveal the assumptions buried in the texts under study, or to read what is absent from what is present. This study shows that in Purbasari dan Lutungkasarung, Purbasari who is assumed to be the heroine is actually a pseudo one. She has no quality to be entitled a heroine, as she is weak and vulnerable, and this title should go to Lutungkasarung who is the doer, savior and the real actor behind the scene. In Tragedi Putri Rorojonggrang, a persistent and strong woman is considered conceited and fraudulent and therefore must be punished and cursed. Both texts embody traditional gender ideology which put women as weak and vulnerable and punish strong and persistent woman. |
