Abstraksi | : | Membrane technology is increasingly recognized as an important separation process with a wide range of application such as in biotechnology, food processing and water treatment. In this experiment membrane is used for separating protein molecule cow milk solution. This paper will describe a simple experiment using 0.1/on cellulose acetate microfiltration membrane for determination of mass transfer coefficient which involve dimensionless number such as Nre, NSc, NSh. The effect of operating pressure, stirring speed to mass transfer coefficient are also studied. This experiment can be carried out using stirred cell in dead end system. The pressure is varied from 0.5 to 1.5 atm for the stirring speed ranging from 292 to 1665 rpm. The mass transfer coefficient, k can be calculated through an equation involving dimensionless number which relates the solvent flux to the boundary condition. The dimensionless equation can be confirmed through an experiment involving the measurement of rejection of molecules protein in cow milk solution. The result shows that theoretically value of k is affected by stirring speed, while experimental value of k is affected both by operating pressure and stirring speed. Agreement in the calculation mass transfer coefficient using theoretical and experimental approach are reasonably good at operating pressure of 1.5 atm. |
