Abstraksi:Recently, many products are made of Garut (Marantha arundiceae L). An increasing number of products cause a huge number of fiber waste. It contains high composition of cellulose, so there is a possibility to extract cellulose from fibers. Cellulose is a raw material which is used for two purposes; construction materials and starting material for chemical conversions. The aim of this research is determining the highest yield of this process statistically with response surface method using process variables such as temperature, time of extraction, and the amount of alkali solution used. The process consists of several stages; cleaning fibers, processing and recovering. Weende method was used to analyze the cellulose content. The highest yield of product reached is 44,45% in the condition of 30 mL NaOH, hour and 88°C. The Canonical form is Yield = 39,3577 — 11,0229 w12 + 4,7057 w22 — 3,3528 w32 and the stationary point is a saddle point.
