| Abstraksi | : | Taufik Ismail translates the poetry of five American poets in an effort to facilitate its understanding by non English-speaking readers. In order to best preserve the equivalent meaning of the Source Text. (ST) in the Target Text. (IT), translators should endeavour to maintain the elements of the poetry, including the figurative language used in the poetry. This article aims to analyze the translation of figurative language in five poems composed by American poets. To this end, this article uses the descriptive qualitative research method. The result of this analysis shows that the translation of the poems has successfully preserved the figurative language (personification, paradox, irony, hyperbole, metaphor, and simile) from the source poetry to the target text, albeit with some changes in lines. |
