| Abstraksi | : | Presentation-Practice-Production is a communicative way of teaching grammar that is most commonly applied in the teaching of English, but many teachers are not familiar enough with it. Teachers generally use only one traditional method of teaching grammar, that is, Explanation–Practice. The presentation-practice-production is a general framework into which other various techniques fit. The presentation stage may be used to present one or several exponents of function, exponents of different functions group together, a structure, or one use of a structure. It aims at giving the students the opportunity to realize the usefulness of its relevance, concentrate on meaning, pay attention to pronunciation and spelling, and focus on morphology and syntax. In presenting a new grammar linguistic and situational contexts are used to convey the form and meaning of the new grammar. The practice stage gives the students the opportunity to use the newly presented grammar in a controlled framework so as to allow them to memorize its form and assimilate meaning more fully. Practice may be oral or written-from mechanical to meaningful or communicative drills. The production stage provides the students with the opportunity to produce the new grammar freely, integrating it with the previously learnt ones without intervention from the teacher. In this stage, the students are put in a similar context in which the new grammar is used as it is in real communication. |
