Abstraksi:Many researches have reported earlier that the interaction between buyers and sellers ended by buying goods, though not necessarily so. This study aims to describe the discourse structure of the buyinQ-selling interactionat the whole¬saler markets in Tanah Abang, Pasar Pagi Mangga Dua, Jatinegara, and Cipulir. Seventy six conversations collected from non-participating customer, direct re¬cording, and field note. This study revealed that the buying -selling discourse has three sta(yes: opening, nucleus, and ending. The opening stage is realized by ver¬bal and nonverbal action: bar-aining goods by the seller or requesting goods by the buycr. The nucleus sta`~e is realized by questioning the price by buyer or announcin`~ the price by seller and negotiatin;'- price. Evey- stage has special discourse acts, but the study found that requesting, bargaining goods, and thank¬ing statements emer`~e at every stage. Putrhermore, the study found thirteen discourse buyer-seller acts, i.e. pre-requesting goods, requesting goods, asking price, pre-bargaining price, reducting price, offering goods, refusing price, ap¬proving price, offering billing's goods, drawing conclusion of price, giving-recieving money-goods, requesting the money changes, thanking. During the interaction, the sellers or buyers express the act directly and indirectly.
