A TRANSLATION OF ENGLISH DEFINITE AND INDEFINITE ARTICLES INTO INDONESIAN

ABSTRAKSI :

Translation plays an essential role in the process of shifting information from one language into another language. The writer focuses on the translation of English Definite and Indefinite Articles into Indonesian, which the source language text is taken from the article on the www.completetranslation.com/principles.htm. The writer makes a choice only in the translation of English Definite and Indefinite Articles because many students still run into difficulty to translate them from the source language (English), and find the equivalent meanings based on the principles or rules of the target language (Indonesian). In this translation research paper, the writer would like to achieve three objectives of the study. They are to come across the differences and the similarities in translating English Definite and Indefinite Articles into Indonesian, to come across the problems in translating English Definite and Indefinite Articles into Indonesian. The results of this translation research paper are divided into the differences and the similarities of the Source Language (English) and the Target Language (Indonesian). The differences are in the word class and positional differences. Meanwhile, the similarities are in translating English Articles, they do not always to be translated into Indonesian and also from the position of the translation of English Indefinite Article, either before or after the translation, it has same position in the initial of the noun.
