An Analysis of Culture Shock Stages in The Karate Kid Movie
ABSTRAKSI :
Culture shock takes place within a distinction, especially the unmake sense values and other cultural elements of a community. This research aims to find the elements of culture that develop the shock and culture shock stages in The Karate Kid movie, specifically Dre and his mother according to Oberg theory in 1954. The researcher uses the movie as the data source. The method of the research is descriptive qualitative method. The researcher collected the data by reading the script and screenshotting the scenes. The researcher applied interactive analysis which conducts three steps, such as data reduction, data display, and data conclusion. The researcher finds 66 data which consist of 9 data found as the cultural elements that explain the distinctions of why Dre and Mrs. Parker encounter culture shock and 57 data found as the culture shock stages which arise from Dre and Mrs. Parker during their time in China.
