AN ANALYSIS OF FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE APPLIED ON THE SONG LYRICS OF TAYLOR SWIFT’S “EVERMORE” ALBUM
ABSTRAKSI :
Figurative language plays an essential role in literary works since it may provide a deeper meaning as well as an aesthetic value, especially in song lyrics. The problem of the research is What types of figurative language are applied on Taylor Swift's "Evermore" album song lyrics?. This study is aimed to identify the types that are applied by the use of figurative language on the song lyrics of Taylor Swift’s “Evermore” album. The researcher employs a descriptive qualitative method to identify and analyze the sentences. This research found 10 types of figurative language that are applied on the song lyrics of Taylor Swift’s “Evermore” album. The percentage implies there are 33 data (35 %) for Metaphor, 21 data (23 %) for Simile, 13 data (14 %) for Personification, 2 data (2 %) on Synecdoche, 1 data (1 %) for Metonymy, 2 data (2 %) for Symbol, 1 data (1 %) for Allegory, 5 data (5 %) for Paradox, 13 data (14 %) for Hyperbole and 3 data (3 %) for Irony. The further finding shows that Metaphor had the greatest percentage.
