AN ANALYSIS OF METAPHOR IN THE LYRICS OF THE SELECTED SONGS IN NIKI’S BUZZ ALBUM
ABSTRAKSI :
This study aimed to identify the types of metaphors used in NIKI's album Buzz and to examine how these metaphors conveyed emotional meaning. This study applied Lakoff and Johnson’s theory of the three types of metaphors and Kövecses’ theory of metaphorical emotion. The data were obtained from the lyrics of selected songs in NIKI’s album Buzz and were analyzed using a qualitative method. The results showed that 39 metaphorical expressions were identified and classified into three types of metaphors. The types found in this study were Structural Metaphor (15), Orientational Metaphor (7), and Ontological Metaphor (17). In the metaphorical emotion category, there were eleven data points consisting of love (6), lust (3), and pride (2). Based on these findings, ontological metaphors and emotional expressions of love were the most commonly used, showing that NIKI preferred to describe her emotional experiences through concrete imagery and focused her lyrical meaning on relational and affective themes.
