AN ANALYSIS OF SUBTITLING STRATEGIES IN “THE GREEN HORNET” MOVIE
ABSTRAKSI :
ABSTRACT The objective of this research is to analyze the subtitling strategies used in “The Green Hornet” movie, which were translated from English to Indonesian. The descriptive qualitative method was applied in this research. The 10 subtitling strategies proposed by Gottlieb (1992) theories were used to examine subtitling strategies. The researcher discovered all 10 subtitling strategies applied in the Indonesian subtitles of “The Green Hornet” movie. Based on the movie subtitle, the total number of data was 1827, with the details: expansion occurred 77 times (4%), paraphrase occurred 493 times (27%), transfer occurred 348 times (20%), imitation occurred 275 times (16%), transcription only occurred once (0.05%), dislocation occurred 21 times (1%), condensation occurred 206 times (11%), decimation occurred 99 times (5%), deletion occurred 247 times (13%), and resignation occurred 60 times (3%). Based on the result, it can be concluded that most of the subtitling strategies applied in the movie is paraphrase.
