AN ANALYSIS OF SUBTITLING STRATEGIES USED IN THE UNFORGIVABLE MOVIE
ABSTRAKSI :
Abstract The objectives of this research are to find out subtitling strategies based on Gottlieb’s (1992:166) theory used in The Unforgivable (2021) movie and to find out what strategy is dominantly used in the movie. This research uses the qualitative research method to describe the data of subtitling strategies based on Gottlieb's theory. The researcher analyzes 682 data subtitles of English language (source language) and Indonesian language (target language). The result of research shows that seven subtitling strategies are used in the movie The Unforgivable which are paraphrase 3% (23 data), transfer 60% (470 data), imitation 9% (74 data), dislocation 14% (109 data), condensation 12% (95 data), decimation 0% (2 data), deletion 2% (17 data). The most dominant subtitling strategy used is transfer which is 60% of 470 data found. Transcription, expansion and resignation strategies are not found in the subtitle of The Unforgivable movie.
