AN ANALYSIS OF TONY STARK’S POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER IN MARVEL FILMS
ABSTRAKSI :
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), is a mental disorder caused by past traumatic events. The objective of this research is to find out the cause, symptoms, and the most dominant and least dominant symptoms of PTSD shown by Tony Stark. The method of this research is the descriptive qualitative method. The data in this research are from the dialogues and scenes in Marvel films. There are 42 data found indicating the symptoms of PTSD shown by Stark and 1 data of the cause of PTSD. The result of this research shows there are 11 data of criterion B (intrusion symptoms), 5 data of criterion C (persistent avoidance symptoms), 14 data of criterion D (negative alterations in cognitions and mood symptoms), and 12 data of criterion E (alterations in arousal and reactivity symptoms). The most dominant symptom of PTSD shown by Stark is criterion B and the least dominant symptom shown by Stark is criterion C. The cause of Stark’s PTSD is criterion A1 (directly experiencing the traumatic event(s)) because he was directly experiencing a traumatic event which led him to develop PTSD.
