ABSTRACT Inna Siti Nur Khasanah Anxiety as Reflected in Lottie Wilkins s Character of Elizabeth Von Arnim s The Enchanted April Faculty of Letters English Department Bachelor Degree Program Gunadarma University Kalimalang Bekasi October 2011 The Enchanted April was written by Elizabeth Von Arnim talking about the life of Lottie Wilkins Lottie Wilkins is a young woman who married to Mellersh Wilkins but she is unhappy She always felt anxious because living with her husband is not easy That is way the writer chooses anxiety as the object of study in this research Problem formulation of this study are what anxieties are found in Lottie Wilkins s character what the effects of anxiety in Lottie Wilkins Character what the causes anxiety in Lottie Wilkins s character and how does theory of anxiety by Sigmund Freud view in Lottie Wilkinss character The aims of this study are find out anxiety in Lottie Wilkins s character find out the effects of anxiety in Lottie Wilkins s character find out causes of anxiety in Lottie Wilkins s character and to find out the theory of anxiety by Sigmund Freud view in Lottie Wilkins Character The scope of this study is only analyzes the main character in Elizabeth Von Arnim s The Enchanted April and analysis of the anxiety experienced by Lottie Wilkins s Character used Sigmund Freud s theory of psychology The research uses a qualitative method to support the writing process of this study The result of this research shows that by using Freud s theory of anxiety we can see anxiety in Lottie Wilkins s character the effects of anxiety in Lottie Wilkins s character the causes of anxiety in Lottie Wilkins s character and how the position of anxiety theory in Lottie Wilkins s character by Sigmund Freud’s theory Keyword anxiety theory of psychology The Enchanted April
