DECONSTRUCTION OF MALEFICENT CHARACTER AND THE PLOT BETWEEN SLEEPING BEAUTY AND MALEFICENT MOVIES USING 9 ALTENBERND AND LEWIS’S TECHNIQUES
ABSTRAKSI :
This research discussed about deconstruction of Maleficent character and the plot between Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent movies. The aims are to identify the character deconstruction in Maleficent character between Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent movies, and to identify the influences of the character deconstruction in Maleficent character towards the plot in Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent movies. This research used Deconstruction theory by Derrida (1960) in reading the scripts and the screenshots of both movies. The method in this research is descriptive qualitative method in revealing the data. The findings showed that character of Maleficent in Maleficent movie inversely proportional than in Sleeping Beauty movie which Maleficent experiences change in character from a protagonist to an antagonist and back into a protagonist character. Thus these make the plot is different between Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent movie. Key Words: deconstruction, character, plot
