Moral Values Analysis of Harry’s Character in the Novel ‘The Great Blue Yonder’ by Alex Shearer
ABSTRAKSI :
The Great Blue Yonder is another kind of adventure novel. The novel tells about a dead young boy named Harry who is trying to find his way to The Great Blue Yonder. In order to that, he has to settle his unfinished business back on the Land of the Living. Harry was haunted by his fight with his sister right before the accident that taken his life happened. Not only settle his business with his sister, Harry also experienced a chance to see how the people in his life (his family and friends) live their life after his death. In his journey he was accompanied by another dead young child from another time named Arthur. Arthur is in the search to find his lost mom. Together they were able to reveal their unfinished business. Harry finally able to apologize to his sister and say a proper goodbye to the people he left behind. Arthur also finally able to find his mom. Therefore, they eventually able to shift to The Great Blue Yonder. In this scientific research, the writer focuses his analysis on Harry’s character because he is the main character that conveys most of the messages lie in the novel. His character suggests about how readers should value each seconds that passes in life. Moral approach is the best approach to reveal the message lies in a story. Harry’s character is interesting to be analyzed and observed. From this research, the writer finds Harry’s character as friendly, adventurous, sincere, honest, and polite though sometimes disobedient, suspicious and stubborn. Harry’s character is being analyzed through moral approach to reveal the moral values lies in his character. Using Aristotle’s theory of moral value, the writer finds the moral value of Harry are, Courage, Honest, Justice, Friendship, Politeness, Self-Control, and Sincerity.
