Abstrak

Vladimir Propp's narrative functions are recurring structural elements that drive the plot and shape character development. This research aims to identify the narrative functions present in the movie Gladiator by using a qualitative descriptive method. The researcher identifies 16 narrative functions found in the movie: Absence, Interdiction, Delivery, Villainy and Lack, Mediation, Beginning Counteraction, First Function of the Donor, The Hero's Reaction, Provision of a Magical Agent, Guidance, Struggle, Pursuit, Difficult Task, Solution, Exposure, and Transfiguration. The results underscore the relevance of Propp's theory in modern cinema, demonstrating its continued influence on contemporary storytelling.
