PATTERN OF NOUN PHRASE IN ARTICLES OF THE JAKARTA POST
ABSTRAKSI :
Noun phrase is a phrase in which head is a noun or a pronoun. The aims of this paper are finding out noun phrase modifier and describing the patterns of noun phrase in the articles of The Jakarta Post dated January 9th and 15th 2011. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method meaning that the data are in the forms of words not number. The total number of the data is 100 noun phrases. There are three kinds of noun phrase modifier in the articles of The Jakarta Post, they are: pre-modifier + head, head + post-modifier, and pre-modifier + head + post-modifier. The patterns of noun phrase using pre-modifier are: determiner + adjective + head, determiner + noun + head, determiner + verb-ing + head, and adjective + verb-ing + head. There are two patterns of noun phrase using post-modifier, they are: head + prepositional phrase and head + relative clause. And the last, three patterns of noun phrase using both modifiers are: determiner + head + adverb, determiner + adjective + head + prepositional phrase, and adjective + head + prepositional phrase.
