PERRINE’S THEORY OF FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE ANALYSIS OF DISNEY MOVIES
ABSTRAKSI :
Figurative language involves diverse, indirect expressions that convey nuanced meanings beyond literal words and sentences, often used for brevity, satire, empathy, or other purposes. The problem in this research is to find out the types and descriptions of figurative language contained in Tinker Bell's movie series, Peter Pan (1953), Return to Never Land (2002), and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977) movies based on Perrine's theory. The research objective is to find out the types and dialogue explanations of figurative language in all the dialogues of Tinker Bell's film series, Peter Pan (1953), Return to Never Land (2002), and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977) movies. The writer uses a qualitative descriptive method to analyze and give descriptions from the dialogues found in the movies. The result found 250 data with overall 8 of the 11 figurative languages based on Perrine's theory. The research results as shown, metaphor 108 data or 43%, personification 72 data or 29%, simile 51 data or 20%, metonymy 10 data or 4%, symbol 3 data or 1%, irony 3 data or 1%, paradox 2 data or 1%, and overstatement 1 data or 1%, identified in the dialogues of these movies.
