Racism Illustration on The African Doctor Movie
ABSTRAKSI :
Racism is a global issue that is still happening to this very day whether it includes discrimination of other ethnic groups, racial injustice, or even prejudice against one culture. This research is to reveal forms of racism as represented in The African Doctor movie. The research method was a descriptive qualitative method. By using descriptive qualitative, the data were processed qualitatively and explained descriptively to answer the problem. The previous studies and supporting data were collected through library and website research related to the issue in this study. In this research, the writer employed Roland Barthes semiotic theory to distinctly explained the visual representation of the movie, and also using Henry Frances and Carol Tator racism theory to reveal the kind of racism forms that are illustrated in The African Doctor movie. The result of the study shows that there are three forms of racism that illustrated in the movie. The data consist of 4 internalized racism, 2 interpersonal racism, and 2 institutional racism. Those scene connotated concepts of semiotics that builds racial stereotyping.
