SUBTITLING STRATEGIES OF ENGLISH-INDONESIAN INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES IN TURNING RED MOVIE
ABSTRAKSI :
The objectives of this research are to find out the types of English interrogative sentences and to explore the subtitling strategies used in translating English interrogative sentences into Indonesian subtitles in the Turning Red movie. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. The data source of this research was a movie entitled Turning Red; meanwhile the data of this research were the English interrogative sentences and the Indonesian subtitle of the English interrogative sentences. The results showed that there are five out of six types of English interrogative sentences identified in the movie Turning Red. There are 50 data of yes-no question, 117 data of WH-question, 85 data of declarative question, one data of alternative question, and two data of tag question. There are six out of ten subtitling strategies found in Turning Red movie, there were six data of expansion, 64 data of paraphrase, 100 data of transfer, 45 data of imitation, 18 data of condensation, and 22 data of deletion. It can be concluded that the most dominant subtitling strategy for translating English interrogative sentences into Indonesian subtitles in Turning Red movie is transfer with the amount of 100 out of 255 data.
