THE ANALYSIS OF FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE IN SELECTED SONG LYRICS OF REALITY CLUB
ABSTRAKSI :
Figurative language is a literary tool used to express meaning beyond the literal, often to convey emotions, create vivid imagery, and emphasize ideas. This study aims to analyze the types and contextual meanings of figurative language found in five selected songs by Reality Club: Alexandra, A Sorrowful Reunion, 2112, I Wish I Was Your Joke, and Anything You Want. The research used a qualitative descriptive method to interpret the lyrics in depth. It applied Kennedy and Gioia’s (2013) theory to classify and explain the figurative expressions. The study identified 19 instances of figurative language, including metaphor (6), simile (4), hyperbole (4), irony (2), and one each of allusion, symbolism, and metonymy. These expressions enhance the emotional and thematic layers of the songs, especially in conveying ideas of love, loss, and self-reflection. The findings show that figurative language plays a significant role in enriching meaning and listener engagement, providing insights for further research in both linguistics and music literature.
