THE CHARACTERISTICS OF SUSIE SALMON IN ALICE SEBOLD'S "THE LOVELY BONES"

ABSTRACT Aulia Latifa. The Characteristics of Susie Salmon in the Novel “The Lovely Bonesâ€. A Scientific Research Paper. D III degree. English Department. Faculty of Letters. Gunadarma University. Jakarta 2010. The Lovely Bones is a story about young woman in rape, killed, and suffered mutilation by her neighbor. The story began when Susie went to her home she passed the fields of corn. On the way home she met her neighbor, Mr. Harvey. Mr. Harvey invited Susie to come his secret place not far from his house. In his secret place Susie gets the rest of her life will end soon. The story interested in this novel and focused in Susie Salmon’s character. The aim of this paper is to find out the characteristics of the main character in “The Lovely Bonesâ€. In searching the data for the scientific research, the writer uses library and takes from some books which are related to the topic. Qualitative survey method is a method in research to serve and process the data including the interpretation. As the source of data, the writer uses the novel, “The Lovely Bones†by Alice Sebold. The result of this research shows the characteristics of Susie Salmon are: she is a curious person, loving person, realistic person, caring person, and helpful person.
