THE REVENGE OF LESLIE STEWART (AN ANALYSIS ON SIDNEY SHELDON’S THE BEST LAID PLANS)

Gunadarma University. Advisor (1) Drs. Hendro Firmawan, MM; (2) Drs. Ichwan Suyudi, MM. Leslie Stewart was a beautiful and an ambitious woman. Oliver Russell is fated to rise the pinnacle of power, the office of President of the United States. Leslie is Oliver’s betrayed fiancée. She dedicated to a single purpose the downfall of Oliver Russell. The aims of the thesis are to find and analyze Leslie Stewart’s characteristics, the factors of Leslie Stewart revenge, and the strategies of Leslie to destroy Oliver Russell in the novel “The Best Laid Plans”. The writer uses aqualitative research method and psychological approach whereas that the object of research is related with psychology. All the data were taken from the book entitled “The Best Laid Plans”. From the writer’s analysis, the characteristics of Leslie Stewart are beautiful, clever, workaholic, ambitious, and an insomniac. Besides, the factors of Leslie Stewart’s revenge are she feels shame, angry, hate, and jealous with Oliver Russel because of his betrayal, the second factors is the death of her mother which influence to her psychology. Meanwhile, the strategies of Leslie Stewart to destroy Oliver Russell are she married Henry Chambers as the owner of media, after Henry’s death his media and all his wealth had given to Leslie. Amazing her own media empire, marshaling all her forces against Oliver, she stands poised to destroy Oliver Russell as President of United States.
