Abstrak

Slang is an informal words that invented and spread by a group, and this scientific writing aims to know the meaning of slang words in ‘The Hate U Give’ novel and the types of slang in ‘The Hate U Give’ novel. The classification of types of slang that is used in this research is the types of slang by Mihalicek and Wilson. The method the writer used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. From the research the writer found all the meanings of slang and conclude that there are 103 slang words found in the novel, 25 are In-group slangs and 78 Common slangs. In-groups slang from this scientific writing is the classification of slang in African-American community. Common slang is the dominant slang that are found in the novel, because African-American not only used In-group slang, but also lots of common slang. The author of this novel uses lots of Common slang so everyone will understand the novel because the novel is read by everyone, not just African-American community.
